John P (Jack) Welch, retired Norwood newsdealer, passed away at the Barnstable Hospital last night. He was in his 81st year.
Mr. Welch was spending the summer at his summer home at Silver Beach, Falmouth when stricken ill and his death came a few hours after his admittance to the hospital. His Norwood home was at 435 Washington Street.
As the owner of Welch’s Newsstand, Mr. Welch operated the stand for over 40 years until his retirement 7 years ago.
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Agnes (Reardon) Welch and a son. Joseph and four grandchildren, and two sisters Mrs. Winifred Conley and Mrs. Margaret Browning, all of Norwood.
Funeral sendees will be held Saturday, July 30 at 8:00 AM from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street. A Solemn High Mass of Requiem will be sung in St. Catherine’s Church at 9 00 AM Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Visiting hours Thursday and Friday at the funeral home are from 2-5 and 7-10 PM
