THE HEAT’S ON
Want to make a bet? Well, you better not try to make it in Norwood because “the heat is on.”
One top-ranking town official, speaking unofficially, admitted that the bookies in town, those gentlemen who save you from making a visit to the track to invest your money in some horse, have ceased operations.
This business of book-making, over-looked if not condoned in many cities and towns, was brought out in the open when an aspirant for the Board of Selectmen of Norwood (since elected), placed the existence of the bookies in writing. This, said the official interviewed by the Messenger, couldn’t be ignored.
How effective the latent drive will be remains to be seen, but judging by the attitude of the town official, it better be successful or ELSE.
