“SPARKIE”, the symbol of the Sparks Department Store, opening soon in the former Nortronics on Route 1 at Neponset street, Norwood, is displayed here by Albert Sparks left) and George Sparks.

Sparks Discount Department Store, which is moving into the former Nortronics plant at Route 1 and Neponset street in Norwood, is almost finished being redecorated into a modem, full-line department store, and should be ready for the grand opening sometime this March, according to George Sparks, president of the Sparks chain.

“Sparkie” the Sparks Department Store symbol which stands for thrifty-wise shopping, is expected to be on hand at the grand opening next month to hand out free lolly-pops and ballons to the kiddies. “Sparkle” will appear in Sparks’ regular advertisement and should become a well-known personality in this area.

Mr. George Sparks states that the Norwood store “will be more than just a new store ….it will be a whole new wonderful world…right at everyone’s fingertips…a delightful shopping experience for everyone… the most complete department store in the entire area.”

Mr. Sparks also said that his policy will be that “Sparks will be dedicated to this proposition: to operate the finest, modern, self-service suburban department store…offer first quality, nationally advertised merchandise at the lowest possible prices anywhere.” He continued, everything purchased at Sparks will be sold with complete satisfaction guaranteed or your money back, cheerfully. At Sparks no sale will ever be final; if a customer is not completely and fully satisfied with any purchase, he or she may return it for a full refund at any time. It is hoped that everyone will come and enjoy our hospitality and money-saving offerings.”
