After months of anticipation, Temple Shaare Tefilah is putting the finishing touches on its brand-new house of worship located at 556 Nichols Street, setting the stage for a grand weekend of religious services and community celebrations to mark its formal relocation from Washington Street.
Weekend Schedule of Events and Cornerstone Placement
The celebratory weekend kicks off on Saturday, September 10, with morning Sabbath services led by Youth Minister Central United at 9:30 a.m., followed by a formal dinner dance at 8:30 p.m. to welcome new spiritual leader Rabbi Joel Meyers and his wife to the congregation. A midnight Silichot service will conclude the evening, serving as a solemn reminder of the approaching High Holy Days. (Reservations for the dinner dance close on September 7, coordinated by co-chairmen).
The formal dedication ceremonies will take place on Sunday, September 11, beginning at 2:00 p.m. with a traditional procession where the congregation and invited guests will transport the holy Torah scrolls from the former Washington Street building to the new Nichols Street sanctuary. The procession will be followed at 3:30 p.m. by participatory dedicatory remarks from local dignitaries and congregation leaders. Additionally, a special cornerstone-placing ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13, at 6:00 p.m., incorporating historical items from the original cornerstone placed 41 years prior alongside selected artifacts chosen by the board of directors.
