Superintendent of Schools James Savage received a glowing report card from the Norwood School Committee yesterday during its annual performance evaluation, earning near-perfect marks across every major category of educational leadership.
Evaluation subcommittee chairman Alan Uliss praised the superintendent’s tenure, declaring to the board, “If being a school superintendent was an Olympic event, Jim Savage would have won the gold.”
Stellar Performance Scores
On a rigorous 0-to-10 scale, Superintendent Savage achieved exceptional ratings from committee members:
- Community Relations: 10.0
- Educational Leadership: 9.7
- Business, Finance, and Labor Relations: 9.79
- School Board Relationships: 9.62
- Administrative, Staff, and Personnel: 9.62
Reading from committee feedback, Uliss highlighted the high regard in which Savage is held across the community: “It is difficult to imagine how a superintendent could accomplish more or serve the town better than Jim has been doing. In addition to his obvious talents at organization, communication and administration, he is also a skilled educator who has contributed greatly in curriculum and in the professional growth of our staff.”
Minor Critiques and Superintendent’s Response
While the evaluation noted a few minor faults described by Uliss as “very minor in nature,” committee members declined to elaborate, deeming them unworthy of public focus.
Expressed gratitude for the unanimous endorsement, Savage thanked the committee for their warm words: “Thanks for your kindness and generosity. This provides stimulation for better things in the future.”
