The school committee last night approved the establishment of an annual John F. Concannon athletic award at Norwood High School.
Mr. Concannon, a member of the class of 1959, was killed in a helicopter crash recently in Vietnam, where he was serving as a paratrooper. At Norwood High School he played on the varsity basketball and football teams for three years.
School committeeman John J. Cavanaugh said, “I can think of nothing more fitting than this Award for one of our own who has given his life in Vietnam.”
The award was suggested in a letter from high school principal John F. Monbouquette, who said members of the Elks and American Legion had made the proposal. It will be presented at the class day exercises or the sports banquet. Winners will receive small trophies and a larger one will be placed permanently in the school.
