The job of removing snow from fire hydrants throughout the town, first taken over by the Boy Scouts and then delegated to the call men oft(he Norwood Fire Department. was discussed last week by General Manager Edward C, Monahan and Fire Chief Alonzo Earle. For the balance of the current winter season: the Fire Department will assume the duty of removing snow from the hydrants and keeping them clear, and in the future the job will go to the Public Works Department.

Mr. Monahan reported the outcome of his conference with the Fire Chief at the meeting of the Board of Selectmen Tuesday night. Within 72 hours after snow storms in future winter seasons, the Fire Department will make a survey of all fire hydrants and make a report in writing of all uncleared fire hydrants to the General Manager.

If constant snow storms in future years again create the condition of emergency preventing the Public Works Department from promptly clearing the snow, the Fire Department will take over the job for the duration of the emergency period.
