Local residents are invited to stop in at Appliance Sales & Service at 1250 Washington street. South Norwood, and see the most revolutionary advance in refrigeration history.

The Servel Co. has come out with an “lce Maker” refrigerator that eliminates the ice tray. The “Ice Maker” freezes ice. cubes, stores them in a basket and automatically replenishes them as they are used Here’s how the icemaker works First a measured amount of water flows into the mold. When it freezes, a small electric heater loosens the circles and ejector arms sweep them out of the mold and hold them at the top of the unit in the freezing compartment until they “dry”. Meanwhile more water flows into the mold. With the next cycle, the ejector arms turn again. This time the ice circles drop into the basket where they remain dry and loose, the ice in the mold is raised to dry, and more water enters. These cycles continue until the basket is filled.

A signal arm automatically starts and stops the operation of the “Ice Maker”. The device may be seen in operation at Appliance Sales and Service Co.

  1. My mother worked as a secretary for Servel on Wall Street in NYC about this time. She occasionally spoke about Servel having invented the ice maker.
