Sarcastically Propose Buying Walpole Country Club Instead
Selectmen voted unanimously last night to formally join opposition against a proposed $3.5 million county purchase of the Wollaston Golf Course, while offering a sarcastic alternative proposal for the commissioners’ consideration.
Board Chairman Walter J. Dempsey put forward the counter-suggestion, stating facetiously, “they can buy nine holes of the Walpole Country Club for only $500,000.”
Dempsey urged his fellow board members to officially notify the county commissioners of the Walpole Country Club sale, explaining that doing so would “confuse the issues” and force them to evaluate two separate options. He acknowledged that the move was intended to “add a humorous and a sarcastic note” to the town’s opposition against the multimillion-dollar county acquisition.
