Special Education Parents Object To Relocation From Oldham School
The School Committee plans to reconsider its initial decision to move the educable youngsters in the special Oldham School classes to the Shattuck School.
The initial relocation step was originally authorized as part of a broader redistricting program established by the board to relieve overcrowding conditions at the Callahan Elementary School.
However, a number of the patrons and parents of the youngsters in the special classes strongly objected to the change on the grounds that it might prove harmful to the core objectives of the program. Proponents of retaining the current structure emphasize that the facilities at the Oldham School were especially designed for the educable program. Because of this specialized environment, parents are seeking to halt the transfer, prompting the School Committee to reopen the matter for discussion at their next upcoming session.
