A school bus crashed into the front of The Chateau in Norwood on Saturday night, injuring one person. The accident occurred at 10:21 p.m. when the bus drove up the front stairs and into the front door of the restaurant.
Emergency crews responded to the crash at 10:21 p.m. at The Chateau, an Italian restaurant located at 404 Boston-Providence Hwy., shortly after the restaurant and bar had closed.
The bus driver was the only person on board at the time. Norwood police said the bus had dropped off passengers at a nearby hotel minutes before the accident.
The driver of another car suffered minor injuries, according to Norwood police. Neither the bus driver nor people inside the building were hurt. A Facebook post from the Norwood Fire Department stated that emergency responders attended to both drivers, transporting one from the scene. Firefighters stabilized the bus and contained a fluid leak before evacuating the building and securing the utilities.
Authorities remained on the scene for about an hour Saturday night, awaiting the building inspector. The building inspector and property owners were expected to assess the damage on Sunday.
According to a WCVB newscast, repairs began on Sunday morning, as the restaurant was scheduled to host two functions on Monday. One person was on the patio at the time of the crash, as mentioned by one of the owners.
It is unclear when the restaurant will be able to reopen. Norwood police are investigating the cause of the crash and are seeking surveillance video.
