Recreation Department-July 23, 1981

The town’s Summerfest concert series, sponsored by the Norwood Arts Council, continues to draw large crowds. On July 22, an estimated 2,500 people attended a concert featuring traditional and “pub-style” Irish music on the town hall lawn.

Summerfest committeeman Jerry Miller attributed the growing attendance to the event’s ability to showcase local talent and provide a fun night out for residents. The program also receives public and private support, which helps to spotlight smaller organizations in need of exposure. A case in point was the appearance of the Tiot Juniors, a younger version of the Norwood Colonial Boys, who marched and offered some fife and drum music during an intermission.

The success of Summerfest is a testament to the town’s ability to come together and celebrate its cultural heritage. As Miller noted, “It took us a year to get embedded in the town. Now they look for every Wednesday,” highlighting the event’s growing popularity.

In addition to these developments, the Norwood Department of Social Services will be hosting a meeting for prospective foster parents on July 22 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. at their office on Washington Street. The meeting is open to all families and individuals interested in sharing their home with children who cannot live with their own parents.

The recreation department’s lessons continue, with the third two-week session starting on Monday. The sessions include tennis, swimming, and other activities for students of various skill levels. The detailed list of participants can be found below:
