Probate Court Judge Joseph Ford approved a petition submitted by Norwood Town Counsel Walter J. Gotovich authorizing the town to utilize the 22-year-old Veterans Memorial Fund to help finance a proposed addition to the Civic Recreation Center.
Town Counsel Gotovich stated that formal issuance of the court decree is anticipated within two weeks in the absence of any opposition, describing the final step as a “mere formality.” Once secured, the town will need to obtain a municipal loan to cover the financial difference between the $110,000 memorial fund and the estimated $390,000 total cost of the recreation center addition. The court ruled that the intended use of the funds aligns with the original purpose of the memorial trust, a legal clearance previously required by a bonding firm before it would approve construction financing for the project.
