Lauren Healey, an eighth grader at Norwood Junior High School, has been named the grand prize winner in WCVB-TV’s statewide “Great Expectations” poster contest.
⠀
Part of a two-year public service campaign focused on public education in Massachusetts, the competition invited students ranging from kindergarten through grade 12 to create a picture illustrating a favorite school subject, with topics spanning geography, math, history, art, music, and sports.
Out of all the entries, fourteen standout posters were selected to be featured in the Channel 5 1990 “Great Expectations” calendar. Lauren Healey’s winning artwork, which depicted the study of geography as a magical way to travel around the world, claimed the highest honor and will grace the cover of the calendar. For her achievement, she was awarded a $1,000 savings bond provided by the Bank of Boston—a primary sponsor of the contest alongside WCVB-TV. Additionally, fellow Norwood Junior High School students Michael Stark and Jessica Paradisa earned honorable mention recognition for their creative submissions.
