Town Officials, Colleagues, and Family Gather at Town Hall to Honor Williamson’s Remarkable 20-Year Service Record
Municipal officials, colleagues, and family members gathered at town hall last night to commemorate the legacy of the late George S. Williamson, honoring his exceptional 20-year tenure on the Zoning Board of Appeals.
A commemorative plaque was officially dedicated and hung in the zoning board room in memory of Williamson, a retired business executive who served the town continuously from 1958 until his passing on February 13. “He knew Norwood like the back of his hand,” remarked acting Board Chairman Joseph J. Randall. “He knew its history, its people, its neighborhoods and its uniqueness.” Randall praised Williamson as a tolerant, fair colleague who mastered the town zoning bylaws by heart—an invaluable asset during complex board deliberations.
Selectmen Chairman Joseph F. Curran addressed Williamson’s widow, Elizabeth Williamson, directly during the ceremony, stating, “He was a credit to this town; he was a credit to his family.” Visibly touched, Mrs. Williamson responded graciously to the tributes alongside attending family members, including Norwood firefighter Edward C. Williamson of Sharon, Sally Williamson of Boston, Anne W. Martin of North Attleboro, and three grandchildren.
