At approximately 10 p.m, on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, Norwood police initiated a traffic stop on Route 1, near Access Road. The car was going over 100 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone.
Police Chief Bill Brooks said “He was holding his phone and trying to record his odometer hitting 100 miles per hour,”
The motorist told officers he was driving “at least a buck” because he planned on selling his car and wanted a video to prove how fast it could go.
“It’s a true story. I actually thought we were reporting it from somewhere else,” Brooks said. “It did happen on Route 1 in Norwood. I can’t imagine someone would do that or would admit to that to an officer.”
The motorist was summoned to Dedham District Court, with charges of speeding, impeded operation of a motor vehicle, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
Norwood Police posted about the incident on their Facebook page on Sept. 29, 2013, and within 48 hours it had been shared 266 times and viewed by over 60,000 people.
