With just 600 of Norwood’s 9,000 registered voters in attendance, the town approved a $2,299,933 budget tonight during a three‑hour session at the Junior High School auditorium. The meeting marked the final “old‑fashioned” town meeting in Norwood’s history.
Beginning next year, Norwood will operate under a limited town meeting format, a change already approved by voters and accepted by the State Legislature.
The budget followed the Finance Committee’s recommendations, with one exception: voters approved $250 pay raises for full‑time town employees. Town Treasurer Edmund F. Sullivan, who has held the position since 1931, declined the raise, choosing to remain at his current $5,000 annual salary.
The approved budget will result in a $3 increase to the town’s $38 tax rate, reflecting modest growth in municipal spending.
