Operated under the auspices of the state Division of Employment Security, the center offered job listings, professional counseling, and aptitude testing to assist individuals in finding suitable work. The agency also facilitated special career-oriented events, such as the job fair recently held in Norwood.

Placement counselors at the center specialized in various needs, including a dedicated veterans representative and a counselor specifically trained to assist handicapped persons desiring ambulatory employment. Beyond general services, the center actively worked with employers to arrange interviews and match candidates with available job openings, such as a then-current opening for a furniture truck dispatcher for a large national corporation with a Norwood location.
