Principal John F. Monbouquette Chosen Among 1,200 New England Educators
During a meeting last night, the Norwood School Committee voted unanimously to accept a distinguished invitation for High School Principal John F. Monbouquette to participate in an exclusive three-man study group. Sponsored by the New England Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges, the delegation will embark on a three-week educational tour next April to examine secondary school curricula in Denmark, the Soviet Union, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, and England.
School Superintendent Dr. Philip O. Coakley shared the formal letter of invitation from Richard J. Bradley, director of the association’s evaluating committee. Highlighting the magnitude of the honor, Dr. Coakley noted that the three-member team was handpicked from a pool of roughly 1,200 high school principals across New England, calling Monbouquette’s selection a direct reflection of excellence for both the principal and the Norwood school system. The committee also voted to cover the $800 travel cost for the April excursion.
Exploring International Curricula and Technological Programs
Expressing profound enthusiasm for the upcoming journey, Monbouquette remarked, “It’s the most exciting thing to happen since I became principal.” Having served as assistant principal before stepping into the top leadership role four years prior, Monbouquette explained that the delegation’s primary mission is to analyze foreign secondary educational models.
“We’ve been concentrating on the Western European systems and we haven’t gotten a good look into these others,” Monbouquette observed. “These countries have excellent technological and liberal arts programs in their universities so they must be doing something right in preparing their best secondary school students.”
