Selectmen Appoint Canton and Medfield Officers to Fill Vacancies in Local Police Force

The Board of Selectmen last night appointed one Canton and two Medfield patrolmen, all who grew up in Norwood, to vacancies in the Norwood Police Department.

Transferred to the local force were Medfield Patrolmen Edward J. Farioli Jr., 26, of 68 Walnut Ave., and Joseph P. Flaherty Jr., 25, of 43 Washington St., the son of a Norwood patrolman; and Thomas Shone, 25, a Canton patrolman and temporarily a resident of Mansfield.

Police Chief James F. Curran highly recommended the transfers based on “very favorable” recommendations of the Canton and Medfield police chiefs and the job resumes of the three candidates. Selectmen Chairman Joseph F. Curran hailed the men as “three outstanding candidates” and praised Chief Curran for attracting them to the local department.
