Senior citizens participating in the Norwood Drop-In Center programs will have the opportunity to learn practical money-saving strategies during an upcoming consumer lecture scheduled for September 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Church in Norwood Center.
Consumer Lecture and Ongoing Senior Activities
Mrs. E. Jacqueline Wenz, consumer lecturer and consultant for the Boston Gas Company, will present a slide-power program titled “Let’s Take A Look,” specifically developed for older citizens across the 74 communities served by Boston Gas. According to center director Patricia Alty, the presentation will focus on stretching food dollars, efficient shopping methods, and proper nutritional habits to support healthier senior years. Coffee and donuts will be served.
The drop-in center continues to serve as a vibrant community hub offering a diverse roster of weekly and monthly activities:
- Health Services: Blood test clinics conducted by Zinc Galanti at the laboratory on Tuesdays at 8:00 a.m. for a small fee.
- Clubs and Leagues: Men’s card club on Tuesdays, a Tuesday morning cribbage club, women’s bowling leagues on Monday and Thursday mornings, and free dance classes on the second and fourth Thursday of each month beginning September 22.
- Social Events: Monthly birthday parties on the third Wednesday, bridge and whist nights on the second and fourth Wednesday, ceramic classes at the Do It Craft Shop, and bi-monthly games nights.
- Travel and Outings: Tickets for the Annual Ball on October 27 at Concannon’s Village become available September 12 through Bea McAndrew, George Shackley, or Mrs. Alty. Additionally, reservations are open for a Las Vegas Holiday Tour (October 16–20) and a weekend trip to Montreal (September 30 to October 2).
