The team successfully achieved its goal, returning home with a 4-1 victory, which placed them just a half game ahead of Walpole in the zone rankings.

Wellesley initially took the lead in the second inning when Tom Crook singled, stole a base, and scored on a single by Tim Furdon. Norwood, typically a strong-hitting club, found an efficient way to score in the fourth inning when Chris Dixon reached base on an error, followed by four consecutive walks issued to Frank Fleck, Tim Denehy, Jim Adelmann, and Steve Lang. In the top of the seventh inning, the offense rallied again as Cawley and Dixon hit consecutive singles, and John Kearney drove in a run with a single. Larry Brown, who was credited as the winning pitcher, pitched throughout the contest.
