97-Acre Project Planned Near Airport by Frank R. Simoni Requires Conservation Commission Approval for Purgatory Brook Wetlands
The town’s board of appeals granted a special permit last night to developer Frank R. Simoni for the construction of an 18-hole golf course on a 97-acre parcel of land off Route 1 near Access Road.
Planned on property abutting the Norwood Airport, the development qualified for the special permit under town bylaws because the acreage—situated primarily in a general residence zone—exceeds the 30-acre minimum threshold required for such recreational uses.
Despite securing the zoning board’s approval, project construction cannot move forward without clearance from the Conservation Commission, which is expected to schedule a formal Hatch Act hearing regarding the site’s sensitive Purgatory Brook wetlands.
