VOTED A NECESSARY EVIL

Norwood, Mass., July 22.—The Norfolk County Temperance Union held its annual picnic at Hawes Grove, in this town, yesterday. There was quite a large crowd present. One of the most spirited debates was upon the use of spotters in the eradication of the liquor nuisance. It was finally voted that they are a necessary evil.

Sanford Waters Billings of Sharon presided, and the following were among the speakers: Rev. C. S. Nickerson of Norwood, Charles M.Thomnson of East Walpole, Rev. George Hill of Norwood. Rev. Mr. Ide of West Medway. Mr. Hunt of Milford: Miss Forsyth, president of the Juvenile Temperance Union. Boston; John W. Thomas of Canton. Rev. Stanford Mitchell of Norwood, Capt. Edward Polleys of East Walpole, Mr. Talbot of Norwood, Henry H. Faxon of Quincy, and Aaron R. Morse of Walpole.

Prof, and Mrs- Stanford Mitchell of Norwood added much to the enjoyment of the occasion with their excellent singing.

The next meeting will be held in Walpole in October.
