Junior Mary Foley delivered a stellar hat-trick performance with three goals, propelling the Norwood High School field hockey squad to a dominant 6-1 Bay State League victory in its season opener yesterday.
Season Opener Dominance and Defensive Lockdown
Norwood controlled the tempo from the opening whistle, building a commanding 3-0 halftime lead. Junior Margaret Marr notched the game-winning goal at the 17-minute mark of the first half, while junior Kristin Cirei contributed two key assists to orchestrate the Mustang attack.
Braintree avoided a shutout when Kathy O’Gara netted a second-half goal against Norwood senior co-captain and goaltender Sue Lynch, who faced just three shots on goal all afternoon. Senior co-captain Laura Connelly anchored the Mustang defensive unit, limiting Braintree to minimal scoring opportunities and dropping Braintree to a 0-2 record despite a 16-save effort from goalie Danielle Palmer.
