The local cable television public affairs program “For the Record” has earned national recognition from the United States Defense Department for an episode focusing on the U.S. National Guard and Reserve.
The award was presented on Thursday night by school board member Joseph Pentowski, who also serves as the vice chairman of the Eastern Massachusetts Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
“We like to make sure we reward those that support our efforts,” Pentowski said during the presentation. “They performed a valuable service by showing what the Guard does and possibly helping us get more members.” Pentowski noted that the supporting committee is dedicated to fostering cooperative relationships with employers whose workers require time off for military training.
Production and Recognition
The Defense Department award for “distinguished contributions to the national defense” was presented to show director and host Jeff Briggs alongside his wife and camera operator, Debby Briggs. The award-winning broadcast featured footage of National Guard members participating in maneuvers and offered an in-depth look at the organization’s vital role in national society.
Created by Jeff Briggs in 1983 as a volunteer-run, half-hour program designed to examine local and national topics—ranging from legislative policies featuring state officials to community issues—the show relies entirely on volunteer efforts. In addition to the Briggs family, Adams-Russell Cablevision and program director Tracy Kiddie were formally recognized for their essential broadcast support and commitment to the program.
