Leighton S. Thompson, 57, of 75 Day St., principal of the Norwood High School and a trustee of the Morrill Memorial Library, died today at the Norwood Hospital following brief illness. Prior to his present post, which he held for the past 10 years, Thompson had been principal of the Foxboro, Swampscott, Methuen and Gardner High Schools. He was graduated from Weymouth High School in 1907 and four years later from Amherst College.

In 1923 he received a Master of Education degree from Harvard. He was 9 member, of the Orient Lodge, A. F. it A. M..

and the Quindeped Club, an organization composed of hish school principals. He is survived by a wr.fe, Mrs. Dorothy A. Thompson, and two daughters, Mrs. Edward J..Thacker, State College, Penn., and Mrs.

Donald E. Sherlock, Methuen. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 in the First Congregational Church with Rev. William F. English officiating.

He will be assisted by Rev. Frank Cary, a classmate of Mr. Thompson., Rev. Mr. Cary, who served in Japan, was made a prisoner of the Japs at the outbreak of the Pacific war.

Private burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.
