Court Takes Under Advisement With Two Other Proposals

Judge James A. Halloran presented the Norwood Plan for the H. O. Peabody School for girls on behalf of special town committee on the plan at the hearing held on Monday in Suffolk Probate Court. Two other plans, one from Simmons College, were presented for the court’s consideration.

The hearing was conducted by the court acting on a petition from the trustees of the Peabody fund for instructions as to the disbursement of the fund. The fund was established for a vocational school for girls to be located on the King Gay farm or elsewhere. Heirs of Mr. Peabody also filed claims for the fund, maintaining that since the property had been sold the bequest had lapsed.

The Norwood plan as prepared, by the special committee for the town under the chairmanship of Dr. Frederick A. Cleveland, proposes an addition to the senior high school to house the new school, with the town contributing the cost of the addition. Gymnasium, library, and assembly hall facilities would be available for the use of the school, and aid from the state, if certain standards were met, would be forthcoming for the school. The income from the fund to be dispensed by the trustees would support the institution. Judge Halloran submitted a brief describing the plan in detail to the court, and it was taken under advisement along with the several other proposals.
