Town Manager John J. Carroll announced the appointment of three experienced police officers to fill open patrolman vacancies within the Norwood Police Department during last night’s selectmen meeting.

New Hires Bring Extensive Municipal Experience

The newly appointed officers bring years of prior law enforcement experience from neighboring communities:

• Martin V. D’Giff (Norwood): Possesses five years of police experience, having served four years on the Walpole police force. Carroll explained that D’Giff previously served on a provisional temporary basis in Norwood, but accepted a permanent appointment in Walpole when civil service certification lists were delayed by litigation. Having earned high marks in both departments, D’Giff enters at the maximum patrolman salary step of $15,594.
• Thomas F. Tierney (Norwood): Brings 10 years of prior policing experience from Braintree. Tierney also enters at the maximum salary step of $15,594 and will receive an additional $1,000 educational incentive.
• Dean E. Raymond (Weymouth): Served four years as a Rockland police officer and is being reinstated after a justifiable resignation from that force. Raymond starts at the minimum patrolman salary step of $12,883, which exceeds his previous earnings in Rockland.

Town Manager Carroll praised the professional reputations and strong service backgrounds of all three inductees as the department bolsters its active patrol roster.
