A fire significantly damaged part of an apartment complex at the Frank L. Walsh Housing Complex on William Shyne Circle late this morning, prompting a large emergency response.
The Norwood Police Department confirmed that officers were at the scene of an “active fire” as of approximately 11:50 a.m. and urged people to avoid the area.
The police also shared a photo showing smoke drifting over the nearby neighborhood.
Fire trucks, rescue vehicles, and ambulances from several surrounding towns, including Westwood, Walpole, Sharon, Stoughton, and Foxboro responded to the scene.
At least one unit was severely damaged, with charred debris spilling from an open wall.
Norwood firefighters began the difficult task of removing fire and smoke-damaged materials from the Fulton street side of the damaged unit, as light rain started to fall around 1 pm.
