The Conservation Commission and the developer of the Park Place industrial park on Route 1 reached an agreement last night on key flood control requirements for the project planned at the former Norwood Arena site.
Under the conditions established by the commission, the large expanse on the eastern portion of the 73-acre site that the developer plans to fill for industrial lots will be offset by an equal volume of compensating water storage area, amounting to 56,000 cubic yards apiece. Developer James H. Shane revised engineering designs following a one-week extension under the Wetlands Protection Act, incorporating open shallow drainage ditches, trap-rock linings for deeper channels, and heavy stone reinforcement where site drainage meets the Neponset River.
Chairman Bettina S. Cottrell noted that the commission reserves the right to review building plans as each of the 37 individual lots is developed due to the extensive wetland acreage involved. A primary occupant of the new park will be the Shane family firm, Appendagez Inc., manufacturers of Faded Glory leisurewear.
Meanwhile, Charles J. Strumski, a veteran conservation commissioner whose reappointment was recently denied by Town Manager John P. Mogan following disputes over the University Avenue extension route, continues to participate fully in commission deliberations as a non-voting associate member.
