Gives Residents a Third Provider Alongside Comcast and Norwood Light

Cable television options are expanding significantly in Norwood, as the Board of Selectmen officially approved a cable television franchise agreement for Verizon during its Tuesday night meeting.

The approval marks the 55th municipality in Massachusetts where Verizon has been cleared to roll out its fiber-optic television service under the FiOS banner.

Unlike the vast majority of Massachusetts communities that gain Verizon as a fresh alternative to a single incumbent provider, Norwood residents will enjoy a uniquely competitive marketplace. The addition of Verizon FiOS brings the town’s total number of cable television providers to three, joining industry titan Comcast and the town’s own municipal telecommunications provider, the Norwood Light electricity and broadband department.
