Says Highway Situation Never Should Have Been Allowed To Develop
Charles S. Bird, Jr., flatly stated that the present situation in South Norwood with respect to the proposed South Norwood highway never should have been allowed to develop, in a letter addressed to the Norwood Board of Selectmen and read at their Tuesday night meeting. Stating that he signed the petition, addressed to the state department of public works asking for further consideration and another hearing, in the belief that the whole South Norwood situation should be studied. Mr. Bird maintained that if the proposed South Norwood highway goes through it will do nothing to improve the situation and will reproduce the Morse street conditions all over again as warehouses are extended.
Mr. Bird said that he would be glad to do all that he could, to help the area and suggested, to the selectmen that the advice of Arthur Shurcliff could be absolutely depended upon. He concluded that the present situation should never have been allowed to develop.
Chairman Charles Houghton told the Board that he intended to see Mr. Bird and would report to the Board as to any amplification of his views at their next week’s meeting.
