It was doubles time in the maternity ward at Norwood Hospital this week as two sets of twins—two girls and two boys—were delivered by Dr. Frank Mason. “They’ve already been matched up. Maybe 20 years from now, they’ll say they all met in the Norwood Hospital nursery,” joked Pamela Hollosy of Franklin, mother of the newborn boys.
Baby girls A and B Polo, named Lindsay and Leslie, were born to Geri and Jim Polo of Buckboard Drive, Walpole, arriving at 7:46 and 7:47 a.m. on Monday. Geri Polo is a familiar face at the hospital, where she works on a medical floor. Shortly after, baby boys A and B Hollosy, named Matthew and Sean, were born to Pamela and John Hollosy at 2:58 and 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Both sets of parents noted they had known for months they were expecting twins and were thoroughly prepared. “We’re dying to get them home. We’ve had everything we need for the babies, all we needed was the babies,” Jim Polo said, noting his family was fully equipped thanks to three baby showers thrown by neighbors, family, and hospital nurses. Pamela Hollosy also shared that friends loaned cribs and cradles while organizing home-cooked meals for her family.
Each set of twins joins an older sibling of the same sex: the Hollosys have a 3½-year-old son, Christopher, while the Polos have a 7½-year-old daughter, Lisa. For the Polos, the arrival was especially poignant after struggling with infertility. Jim Polo explained that they had spent four years on an adoption waiting list and cared for several foster children in the interim, making Lisa exceptionally eager for little siblings.
While medical tests were still pending, the Polos believed their daughters might be identical twins, whereas the Hollosy boys are fraternal. Staff maternity nurse Linda Winslow noted that caring for multiple sets of twins is not unusual as long as the newborns meet healthy weight thresholds—and these infants arrived with impressive birth weights comparable to single-born children. Lindsay weighed 6 pounds, 4 ounces, and Leslie weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces, while Matthew and Sean both weighed in at 6 pounds, 11 ounces. According to hospital staff, the newborns represent the fourth and fifth sets of twins cared for in the Norwood Hospital nursery within the span of a single month.
