The Society has embraced its responsibilities to preserve and enhance the Day House, preserving the historic fabric of the building while enabling everyone in the community to join us for exhibits and events. Thanks to a planning grant from the Blue Hills Bank Charitable Foundation and major suppport from the Mass Cultural Council, our 2021 project will create a new entrance ramp and also public restrooms that meet the standards of the ADA. Thanks to a preservation-sensitive design from KMA Architecture + Accessibility, we’re excited to make major advances in the Society’s accessibility with very little impact on the building’s original form.
The proposed ramp access will be on the Bullard Street side of the house, fitting within a seldom-used area of the Day House portico.
Few changes are required within to make the public rooms of the Day House ground floor easily navigated in a wheel chair or other support. And we’re making the house more comfortable for all visitors, by converting the Society’s office space into mew restroom facilities.
The Society has secured 75% of the necessary funds, and we are seeking financial support to ensure the success of this project.
