The first Norwood Senior Citizens Social was held last Monday evening at the Norwood Veterans of Foreign Wars Building under the sponsorship of the Norwood Senior Citizens Committee, with close to two hundred of Norwood’s Senior Citizens on hand to enjoy the evening of fun.

The Norwood Senior Citizens Committee Is a group appointed by the local Board of Selectmen to concern itself with programs and activities of aging. Entering its second year of existence, the Committee planned and conducted last Monday’s Social Evening as its first public activity for Norwood’s senior set. With such a success last Monday, other such affairs undoubtedly will be planned.

After Introductory remarks by Committee Chairman Rabbi David Prince, Joseph Long of the Norwood Housing Authority served as Master of Ceremonies for the evening were Wayne Negrini, Accordionist, Binger, and pantomimist, Uno the Clown and Magician, Paul Clark, Pianist, Britta Kallgren and Priscilla Helligmann, Swedish Pantomlmists, and the Mad Hatters, the new Sweet Adelines group from neighboring Canton.

During the evening also Chairman James Drummey of the Board of Selectmen was Introduced and brought the greetings of the Town to the senior citizens, as did Committee member and Norwood General Manager Walter A. JBlasenak. Vocal selections were rendered during the evening by V.F.W. stewart Phil Breen. John Tegan, Manager of the Norwood Area Office of the Social Security Administration, was present during the evening with a display and answered several questions put to him by the senior citizens concerning their benefits.

Chairman Rabbi Prince and the members of the Norwood Senior Citizens today expressed sincere thanks to all who participated and assisted in making this first Senior Citizens Social the grand success that it was. Special thanks are due the Veterans of Foreign Wars for donating their fine facilities, to the Women’s Auxiliary for preparing and serving refreshments, to the local transportation company that furnished buses, to the two local caterers who provided refreshments, to the several entertainers who performed during the evening, to the local police for their assistance, and last but by no means least, to the senior citizens themselves for turning out In such numbers to make this first Senior Citizens Social an outstanding success.
