Opportunity To Clear Up Any Doubts Concerning Safety of War Souvenirs

Norwood residents who are owners of war trophies are invited to attend the meeting of the War Trophies Safety Committee to be held this evening at 7:30 at the Municipal Building.

Trophy owners may clear up any doubts about their war souvenirs at the meeting, and are asked to jot down the markings on guns rather than bring them to the meeting. Any explosive trophies may be brought to the meeting for identification.

The Trophies Committee has expressed its appreciation to the individuals, organizations and companies who assisted in launching the Important safety program. Among these are Burleigh Fletcher, T. Newman and John Griffith of the Alcohol Tax Unit; General Manager Edward C. Monahan; Police Chief Lydon; Colonel Jar-ret, former Ordnance officer; Charles T. Haven and Melvin Johnson of the Johnson Automatic Inc.; and Walter H. B. Smith; author and gun authority. Also assisting in the organization were the Norwood Post, American Legion, “American Rifleman,“ Norwood Rifle Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Chamber of Commerce, American Ordnance Association, National Rifle Association, Remington Arms, Inc.. Johnson Automatic Inc., and Paul Richmond and Company, publishers, Old Colony Press, Norwood, Norwood Printing Company for printing services.

In an attempt to make all “war trophy” weapons safe and register all dangerous weapons, the War Trophies Committee plans future publicity on souvenir weapons and their care.
