Two children, Thomas Lydon, 6, and Maureen Kelliher, 8, both residents of the Rock Street neighborhood, were pulled to safety from four feet of icy water in an unfinished cellar on Nahatan Street near their homes late Sunday afternoon by two boys who heard their cries for help.

Mrs. Thomas Lydon of 47 Rock Street called the police when her son, Thomas, 6, was carried home by Jeffery and Paul Nolan of 25 Rock Street, 8 and 9 years old. Thomas and Maureen had fallen through ice that coated the flooded cellar. Both escaped with only a ducking in the icy water.

Patrolmen William Costello and Frank Walsh notified the Norwood fire department and an engine was sent to the scene to pump out the cellars.
