Tons of water were poured on dozens of 50-gallon drums loaded with chemicals to prevent massive explosions as a fire raced through a nearby wooden storage building of the King Paint Co. Pleasant st, at 8:45 a.m. today inside the blazing two-story building at the rear of the plant there were several minor explosions of smaller paint and chemical containers.
Nobody was injured in the general alarm fire that ruined the elongated building and caused damage estimated at $7500.
Fire Chief Irving Dobson said cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
The huge drums were piled outside the storage building.
