Norwood’s booming industrial corridor along Route 1 gained a significant new player this week with the opening of the Republic Pipe & Electric Supply Company, a full‑service supply house designed to meet the needs of plumbing, heating, and electrical contractors throughout the region. The new facility brings to Norwood what company officials describe as “the most complete line of in‑town stocks in this area,” marking a major expansion of trade‑only supply services in one of the fastest‑growing sections of Massachusetts.
A division of the Boston‑based Republic Pipe & Supply Corp., and affiliated with Republic Electric Supply Co., Republic Appliance Distributors, and The Nelligan Co., the Norwood branch is staffed by seasoned professionals with deep experience across all phases of the plumbing, heating, and electrical materials field. The company maintains a strict policy of serving only the trade, a standard it has upheld for more than fifty years.
Officials of the long‑established concern say the new Norwood operation answers a “long‑felt need” among contractors and industrial customers who have struggled to obtain certain brand‑name materials locally. With its central location on the Providence Turnpike, the new warehouse will allow Republic to distribute leading national product lines that have not always been readily available in surrounding towns.
Expanded Facilities for Faster Service
To better serve contractors, Republic has made extensive additions to its facilities, ensuring fast pickups and speedy delivery—two factors that can save plant superintendents and tradesmen countless man‑hours. The company prides itself on its ability to move materials quickly, a hallmark of the “jet‑propelled service” that has become synonymous with the Republic name in Boston.
Leonard Matthew, manager of the entire Norwood operation, promises that the same high‑velocity service will now be available locally. Matthew emphasized that the new facility was designed from the ground up to meet the demands of modern contractors who rely on rapid access to parts and supplies.
A Staff of Experienced Specialists
The Norwood branch is staffed by a team well known in the trades:
- Sam Swardlick, a lifelong Canton resident, heads the plumbing department. Widely respected for his knowledge and affable manner, Swardlick has spent years calling on industrial clients and plumbing and heating professionals throughout the Norwood area. His familiarity with local needs makes him a natural fit for the new operation.
- Harold Norris, Harry Wasserman, James Garnett, and Herman Tansky oversee the counter, stock, shipping, and receiving departments. Their combined years of experience ensure smooth, efficient handling of orders and inventory.
- Harris Libby and Ted Libby, executives of the parent company, serve as purchasing agent and sales manager respectively. Both expressed confidence that the Norwood outlet will become a valuable asset to the communities it serves.
Republic officials note that the company distributes many of the leading national brands in the industry, and the Norwood location will make these products more accessible than ever before.
Grand Opening Celebration
All personnel will be on hand to welcome contractors, plant managers, and longtime customers during a gala open house scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 14 and 15. The event will introduce the community to the new facility, showcase its expanded capabilities, and reaffirm Republic’s commitment to serving the trade with speed, reliability, and expertise.
With its strategic location, experienced staff, and extensive inventory, the Republic Pipe & Electric Supply Company is poised to become a cornerstone of Norwood’s industrial and commercial landscape—another sign of the town’s rapid growth along the Route 1 corridor.
