Mr. R. J. Fuller, who was recently elected superintendent of schools in this town, was born in New Hampshire in 1870. Early in life, he was thrown upon his own resources, and at the age of seventeen he left home to prepare for college. He graduated from Vermont Academy in 1891, and spent the following years teaching in ungraded grammar schools in Maine and New Hampshire. He entered Brown University in 1894. Here he was prominent in athletic sports, being a member of the football team and captain of his class team. He was one of the officers of the class in his Junior year, and in many other ways was a prominent and popular student.

His special lines of study in college included Higher Mathematics, German, and Physics. He also took courses that prepared him for the special purpose of becoming a school man. During the first two years of his college course he taught in the evening schools of Providence, and in his last two years he was appointed submaster in the East Providence High School. Immediately after graduating from college, he was elected Principal of the Ayer High School, where he won the esteem of pupils, teachers, and citizens. He resigned from this position in 1900 to become superintendent of schools in the East Bridgewater district. He has been three times unanimously re-elected. Citizens of that town who have no immediate connection with the schools speak highly of his value to the town as a citizen and as a man. Those who know of his school work speak in the highest terms of praise of the work which he has accomplished during his stay there. A local paper says, “Mr. Fuller has made a host of friends during his stay in town and they will be deeply grieved to have him go.”
