Request for a license to allow dancing at the Norwood Sport Center was turned down by vote of Norwood selectmen on Tuesday night. The vote was three to two, with Selectmen Sture Nelson and Charles F Holman opposed to the motion disapproving the license.

Fred Sherwood of the Sport Center appeared before selectmen to ask for the license. He said that the young crowd had asked repeatedly for dancing at the Center and more particularly now that rationing prevented their traveling to a dance hall.

Dancing, he said, would be cement, an Area which is six feet wide by 80 feet long. It would be check dancing to tunes of a record player, and dancing was proposed for Friday and Saturday nights and Monday and Wednesday nights.

Selectmen Nelson and Holman took the position that no harm would be done by granting the license. Other selectmen opposed the plan saying that an area six feet by eighty feet could not be interpreted as a dance hall, and so was not eligible for a permit. Selectman Clement A. Riley made the motion for denying the request for a license and he was seconded by Selectman Daniel J Collins.
