Gale Huggins shown in his small gasoline-powered automobile, .which is a familiar sight in the Winslow section.

Residents of the Winslow section of Norwood have been very interested in a small gasoline-powered automobile belonging to Gale Huggins, 269 Walpole Street, which was built by Gale with his father’s help last fall.

The car has a frame made of oak floorboards, reinforced with aluminum angles to give strength.

The two front wheels are set wide apart to give stability and have a conventional steering gear. The two back wheels are set very closely together, eliminating the need for a differential. This also gives the aluminum body a streamlined effect.

The car was originally powered by a lawn mower engine. When the engine was beyond repair, Gale secured a gasoline washing machine engine, constructed a new mounting, drive, gasoline connections, etc., unaided except for advice from patient auto supply stores, hardware stores, and garages from which he purchased the many needed small parts and fittings.

When Mr. Huggins returned from an extended business trip he was surprised to find the car running again.

Gale shares the use of the car with his sister, Virginia, his brother Bobby, and other children in the neighborhood.
