Norwood Arena To Present Huge Ten-Act Show July 11-This Day in Norwood History-July 7, 1948

Movie And Radio Headliners To Be Seen In Vaudeville Extravaganza At New Route 1 Plant

In a country that is just now feeling the effects of a powerful inflationary trend, Norwood, and in particular the Norwood Arena stands out as one of the bright spots.

The management, in an endeavour to show that the best way the inflated dollar can be is attempting to at least to some of the “long green’s’’ by presenting a bang-up vaudeville show on July 11th, for one dollar, plus tax.

Entertainment values, in common with others, have been declining as the cost of living hit entertainers, it is pointed out, so when a man can sec a great 2 1/2-hour, 10-act vaudeville production starring movie and radio headliners for a buck, that’s considered news.

“Cynthia and Her Pals” a marvelous dog act which stars several of “man’s best friends”, will appear at the Arena show July 11th. These dogs, some of the most intelligent canines in existence, will perform boxing matches and other unheard of antics. Their brilliant caperings have delighted audiences all over the U. S. and including New York and Hollywood.

Loie King, the glamorous darling of the aerial trapeze, will be another attraction. The Arena until now merely man’s domain which featured only Midget Racing, succumbs to a woman’s charm and daring. Miss King Is not just another trapeze acrobat but a superb artist who will thrill and captivate New Englanders as she has so many others In her appearances between both coasts.

Ben Yost’s Vikings America’s foremost singing aggregation, will also appear in the show. This group has had wonderful successful engagements at such widely separated points as the Roxy Theater in New York, the Shoreham Hotel in Washington, Chicago’s Chez Paree, and the fabulous Flamingo in Les Vegas. Public acclaim has been so overwhelming that their rise to fame has been almost meteoric
The Swedish Royal Troupe, who will present a punch-laden, power-packed display of reckless acrobatics, are supreme by any standards. These six men and women put on a breathlessly paced exhibition of skill and daring with more equipment than a teeterboard and their own muscular strength. Their forte is tumbling and bounding with a finish and precision unusual in the field. The fact that they are a headline attraction is not surprising because they have evoked excited comment at their engagements all over the United States.

Early and Late, an act to be featured in the mammoth show is very unusual indeed. Most trapeze acts, and particularly women artists with that weapon of physical torture are inclined to go at their trade like grim death. These three lovely, and, hilariously the show” wherever they have appeared Their pantomimical skill at comedy and aerobatics is always bound to be popular since pantomime is one of the oldest of human arts.

The Cycling Kirks, an entertainment feature, that stars two men and a women, is destined to be a smash hit when It plays at tho Norwood Aictia on July 11th On bicycles and unicycles, the professional turn for a one-wheeled bike these three humans perform feats of skill and daring ordinary mortals probably could not duplicate even while standing solid on terra firma. Juggling and aerobatics are just two of the main wonderful and amazing skills which they combine with a dazzling display of riding ability. Their possession of such virtuosity explains the smashing success while formerly touring with the Ringling Circus.
