NORWOOD, Feb. 8 – Eight or 10 sacks containing fourth class mail were destroyed in a fire early this morning in the Norwood central post office in Guild sq.
The mail was mostly catalogues and advertising matter, according to Postmaster Sture Nelson. The cause of the blaze has not been determined.
The fire was discovered at 3 a.m, by Police Sgt. Henry Breen who was driving by in a police car. Fire fighters donned masks to enter the building because of the heavy smoke.
Fire officials said the blaze was confined to the shipping room in the building which is undergoing a $25,000 renovation.
Patients in the nearby north wing of the Norwood Hospital were aroused by the sound of the fire fighters but none had to be moved.
