
Miss Nancy Cass, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick P. Cass, of 10 Sycamore Street, Norwood, placed third in competing for National Skating Honors last week, at Toledo, Ohio. Nancy is the Massachusetts State Figure Champion For her work in the National competition, she was presented with a beautiful plaque.
Nancy represented the Norwood Roll-land Skating Club in the meet, participated in by the best of America’s twenty million roller skaters, and witnessed by over 40,000 spectators.
Nancy is among 918 eligible finalists at the meet, representing finalists of an original 25,000 competitors from 41 states, three Canadian provinces, and Alaska. The seven-day meet features fifty-one events, from which eighty-three first-place American Champions, including pairs and fours teams, are made. The American Meet is conducted annually by the oldest and largest sport governing body in the roller skating field in America, the Roller Skating Rink Operators Association of America, known popularly and Internationally as the RS ROA.
A total of seven Norwood skaters competed for National Honors. The Junior Fours, whose members are Sylvia Power, Dorothy Hogan, Ronald Schneider, and Scott Massey, finished in 6th place. Nancy and David Olson, competing in Novice Pairs event, finished in place.
Those seven skaters, and Fund Raising Committee, like to take this opportunity to thank the townspeople for their generous donations at the recent Tag Day.
