The Board of Selectmen Wednesday voted to petition the Finance Commission for the transfer of $600 for use by the Parking Commission in the preliminary engineering study of the current program aimed at increasing the size of Norwood parking facilities to accommodate 200 additional cars.

Chirman Frederick A. McDonough of the Commission advised the Town Fathers that all existing facilities have been examined and that the committee is giving consideration to erecting additional parking lots on Central Vernon and Day streets, and on Railroad avenue.

Commissioner William Hyland recommended that the engineering services of Gene London, through the office of Arnold Schaler, be retained for the study. London is familiar with Norwood and will have access to information in Schaier’s office, said Hyland.

London, who was retained years ago for engineering services by Norwood philanthropist George F. Willett, will determine paving, drainage and lighting requirements at the new lots.

The parking plan at the Norwood Hospital will be considered in the present study by the Commission and proposed new facilities will be appraised for funds necessary for construction and size of the lot. Working estimates and sketches will be used by the Commission.
