Mrs. Nellie (Babcock) Gillooly, formerly of Norwood, died Tuesday evening at the Dedham Nursing Home. She was in her 91st year.

Born In Norwood, Mrs. Gillooly was a member of one of Norwood’s best-known families, being the daughter of Martha Guild and Samuel Howard. She was an authority on early Norwood and as one of the few surviving real oId-time natives she was frequently consulted on matters concerning the history of the town.

The late Win Everett, who for many years was the unofficial historian of the town, found her to be a fountain of knowledge of Norwood lore.

Mrs. Gillooly and her late husband, John Gillooly, were among the founders of the Norwood Historical Society. She was also a member of the Wanita Rebekah Lodge, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the United Church of Norwood.

Private funeral services will be held at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street. Friends may call today at the funeral home from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.

Mrs. Gillooly is survived by one daughter, Miss Esther Babcock, of Clapboardtree Street, Westwood, and of the Mass. Hospital School in Canton, a stepdaughter, Miss Nellie Gillooly, two grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

It Is requested that donations be forwarded to the Jimmy Fund in lieu of Howers.
