Norwood’s Growth.
The revival of business in every department of trade seems to be an assured fact, and from indications all over the country we are on the eve of a general prosperity that will be felt in every town and city on the continent. Doubt and fear seem to have vanished, and confidence is taking its place among men of business. The wheels of commerce are turning and the signs of activity greet us in every sphere of labor.
As a community, so the whole country, and in our own little township the hum of industry is heard and the boom of business activity is seen on every side. Building operations are being pushed with vigor; new ground is being broken every week; street extension and improvement mark the progress, of the town’s boundaries; business bustle and the arrival of new residents betokens a flourishing state of affairs, and the Norwood of the future begins to loom up before our pleased vision.
The growth of a town is indicative of the growth of the state, and so while we rejoice in our own growth, and that of the county of which we form a part, we are proud to be a part and parcel of the old commonwealth whose record of noble deeds illuminates the country’s history. While the percentage of increase during the past decade is not as large as we might wish, yet it shows a steady growth, the census figures for 1895 giving us 4,574 inhabitants, an increase of 1,653, or 50.59 percent, as compared with 1885. As compared with other towns in Norfolk county these figures are very encouraging.
