Prepare Fact Sheet On Control Engineering
A fact sheet about Control Engineering Unit Qf Detroit Controls has been prepared by the Committee for Industrial Development for distribution to Town Meeting members as background material so that they will be better prepared to act on the request for rezoning for a new plant between Route 1 and Pleasant street at the special town meeting next Tuesday night.
Being delivered to the Town
Meeting members also is a brochure describing operations at Controls Engineering , an aerial photo showing the location of the proposed plant, as well as an architect’s sketch of the plant.
Information on the fact sheet follows:
Expansion is necessary because of long range government and commercial contracts.
Present Facilities: Plant No. 1 on Route 1 (see pictures). Plant No. 2 on Washington Street.

Employment: At present there are 487 employees. The new plant will require 200 additional people adding more than $1,000,000 to payroll in 1957. Approximately 65% of present company employees are now residents Of Norwood and vicinity. The same proportion is expected to be maintained in adding new personnel. Projected plans indicate that the number of people to be employed will reach four times the number presently employed in 5 years.
Tax Income To The Town: At present, the two existing plants provide over $12,300.00 in tax receipts to the town. The land In question for rezoning provides $155.55. The proposed building and Improvements will Increase the tax potential of this site to approximately 100 times greater than it is now.
No Nuisance Problem: The company’s manufacturing activities create no smoke, noise, or odor problems. It will not cause interference with radio or television reception in the area.
There are no by-products of manufacturing to be dumped. All scrap and excess to manufacturing are resold.

Long-Term Operations ‘The personnel and facilities of the company are well-oriented to both commercial and military products, therefore the operation does not rely on government contracts alone for its continued operation. No military cutback would} have serious repercussions in company operations.
Contemplated Future Plant For The Area Long range plant of Control are to have 3 additional buildings erected in this area — possibly within 5 years.
